Christmas at the RC Field | York RC Club
The York Area R/C Club would like to share a little holiday fun with our pilots, families, and friends. π
As the flying season slows down and the days get shorter, itβs a great time to think about the people and airplanes that made this year special. βοΈ
Instead of a technical article, we wanted to celebrate with a Christmas poem. π
If youβve ever spent a cold morning at the field warming up your fingers on a transmitter, this one is for you.
If youβre new to the hobby, consider this a lighthearted welcome to the York RC community. π€
And if youβre a long-time member, we hope it brings back a few memories of frosty runways and smooth winter air. βοΈ
So grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy a visit from a very special RC Santa. β
Here is our take on the classic βTwas the Night Before Christmas, RC airplane style. π©οΈ
βTwas the Night Before Christmasβ¦ at the RC Field π π©οΈ
βTwas the night before Christmas, and all through the shop, π
Not a servo was buzzing, not even a prop.
The LiPos were charged on their balance leads with care, π
In hopes that calm skies would soon be there.
The transmitters rested all snug on the bench, π‘
With trim tabs centered β not a drift, not a wrench.
And I, with my toolkit, with glue in my lap, π§°
Had just tightened pushrods with a gentle tap-tap.
When out on the driveway, there rose such a clatter, β
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a dart, π
Nearly tripping on wings, I meant never to part.
The moon on the snow β smooth and white as fresh foam β πβοΈ
Gave the luster of flight to our own winter home.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear, π²
But a tiny sleighβ¦ and eight models in gear! π·
With a miniature pilot so lively and quick, π
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. π
More rapid than turbines, his aircraft they came, π¨
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
βNow, Tundra! Now Timber! Now Cub and FunFlyer! βοΈ
On Edge! On Extra! On Trainer and SkyRyder!
To the end of the driveway, donβt stall on the wall β
Now throttle up, throttle up, throttle up all!β π
As balsa shavings whirl when a prop starts to spin, πͺ΅
So soared his small fleet as they banked to begin.
Up over the rooftops the squadron they flew, π
With St. Nicholas laughing β oh, he knew RC too!
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the snow βοΈ
The flutter and hum of a slow-flying glow.
As I turned from the window and started to grin, π
Down the chimney St. Nick tumbled proudly right in. ππ₯
He was dressed head-to-toe like a pilotβs delight, π§₯
With a toolkit, spare props, and LEDs bright. π§β¨
A bundle of goodies he flung from his pack:
Fresh glow plugs, new chargers, and fuel by the rack. π οΈ
His eyes β how they twinkled! His smile full of cheer! π
He said, βMerry Christmas, my friend β see you next year! π
π
But before I head out to continue my flight,
Keep the club spirit strong, and your landings just right.β π«
He spoke not a word, just gave me a wink π
Then filled up my parts bin and left me to thinkβ¦
How lucky we pilots all are in this life,
To share sky and field with good friends free of strife. β€οΈ
He sprang to his sleigh, to his fleet gave a call, π£
And away they all flew, one tight-formed fly-ball. π©οΈ
But I heard him exclaim as he climbed out of sight β π
βMerry Christmas, York RC, and to all a good flight!β ππ©οΈ
π Merry Christmas from the York Area R/C Club π
The York Area R/C Club wishes every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! π β¨π
May Santa bring you the parts, planes, tools, gadgets, and toys of your RC dreams β and may your flights in the coming year be smooth, safe, and full of fun. π©οΈπβοΈ
